Looking to give a room a fresh new look? There’s no need to overhaul everything. With the magic of paint, you can transform a space into something entirely different. It’s cost-effective, fun, and sometimes can be done in a weekend! The other day I gave our main bathroom a new look using paint. This was in partnership with Farrow & Ball to help promote their Christopher John Rogers collection(whose one of may fave fashion designers btw!). The dress that I wear in a few of the images below were created by him. Anyway, I digress. The paint colors featured below are from his collection with F&W. They are ceiling- Raw Tomatillo(green color), walls -Au Lait (white) and double doors-Shallot(pink)

Here are some practical tips for redoing your own space using paint:

this is what the bathroom looked like before I gave it its second paint makeover. Though today’s post features its 5th iteration:-).

  • Choose the Right Color:
  • Start by selecting the perfect color for your space. Think about the mood you want to create and the existing decor. Lighter colors make a room feel more spacious, while bold colors can add drama. The above was the bathroom before its recent paint makeover. Though I love green, i wasn’t in love with the shade of green for the space so I decided to use a more vivid vibrant green and paint the walls in a warm white that would offset and let the green color shine.
  • Prep the Space:
  • Before diving into painting, make sure to prep the area. Clear the room of furniture or cover it with drop cloths. Remove fixtures, outlet covers, and any wall decor. Patch any holes or imperfections and sand them smooth.

  • Prime if Necessary:
  • If you’re making a drastic color change or painting over a darker hue, consider using a primer. It helps the new paint adhere better and provides a more even finish.
  • Start with the Ceiling:
  • It’s often best to start with the ceiling and work your way down. This prevents any drips or splatters from ruining your freshly painted walls. In my case I also painted the ceiling to be a focal point as it is in fact the 5th wall.
  • Use Proper Technique:
  • Apply paint in smooth, even strokes. Start from the top and work your way down, and be sure to maintain a wet edge to avoid visible brush or roller marks.
  • Don’t Forget the Details:
  • Pay attention to the trim, doors, and windows. A fresh coat of paint on these details can make the whole room look polished and complete.
  • Allow for Drying Time:
  • Let each coat of paint dry thoroughly before applying the next. Rushing this step can lead to imperfections in the finish.

Redoing a space with paint is a creative and budget-friendly way to give your room a fresh perspective. So, grab your paintbrush and start transforming your space today. Happy painting!
