In my last post ushering in Spring, I mentioned I would be back to share some house updates with you. Well, ta da!! Our kitchen cabinets are now a delightful green and i love them! The kitchen now feels like a Jamaican cooks here:-). Though this was just a paint refresh, let’s take a quick look back at where we started with the kitchen.

In June of 2021, i gave our tiny kitchen a mild gut renovation. You can read all about it HERE. I settled on a neutral color for the cabinets at that time because I had a deadline to meet for the reveal (as I was working with Velux who installed a sun tunnel to brighten up the area).

Anyway, now almost 3 years later, the cabinets are finally bathed in color.

I initially was set on a dark green for the cabinets, but after reviewing swatches, I realized that a darker green would not work in here. Speaking of swatches, I recently discovered Samplize and love how easy they make the process of testing paint samples before committing. You can order a sample of the color you want online or even several samples of various colors and delivery is unbelievably fast! I chose Benjamin Moore Sherwood Green in the Benjamin Moore Advanced Paint Product line for the cabinets and love how beautifully it complements the rest of the color in our home.

Initially, I planned on painting the cabinets myself, but reluctantly decided to outsource as I just didn’t have the time to allocate to days of painting kitchen cabinets. The painting crew knocked the painting in one day. However, I repainted the kitchen walls myself. Above, in the ‘lightly colored kitchen cabinet version’ i had painted the walls a light pink which I liked for that iteration. I love how modern and fresh the space feel with the white backdrop. I showed a video of me painting the walls white on IG and there were some gasps lol! You don’t even notice the white walls, do you? You’re just looking at those green cabinets.

Another thing I did that got some gasps was removing this wallpaper. I felt is was too busy and I wanted the view to be seamless, so I removed it and also painted this nook white; Benjamin Moore White Dove.

modern dining table and chairs

I love how these modern pieces are now the features of this nook with the removal of the wallpaper.

I’ve mentioned before that we use our formal dining room as the playroom and usually eat at our kitchen counter or in this nook in the kitchen. For the mini gut renovation I did back in 2021, I splurged on this Ethnicraft Bok large dining table, and I love how it shines now against the freshly painted kitchen walls. I have a love affair with the modern classics and that is the foundation of my aesthetic. Though I like to mix things up. The Panton chair was a vintage score and the lighting is from Design Within Reach (bought many years ago).

The stools are the Muuto nerd counter stools.

I thrifted these adorable salt and pepper shakers many years ago. I have a thing for birds:-)
